The ability to hear and interpret sounds is the foundation for spoken language, verbal communication, interpersonal relationship, educational and vocational attainment. This ability is effortless for most children from birth. But some children require help to acquire the skill to hear and speak. This help can best be provided in the first six months of life. The booklet entitled a Sound Start for Every Child is a guide for parents and healthcare workers on how every child can be given a SOUND START for a fully active life.

“Every child must be ensured the best start in life – their future, and indeed the future of their communities, nations and the whole world depends on it.”
